A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR
This Sunday, 12 November will be the last day of SCAPE 2006. The preceding months have involved a lot of hard and rewarding work, creating a biennial that has enriched the cultural landscape of Christchurch in countless ways through artworks in public spaces.
New bonds between artistic and corporate spheres have been forged resulting in rewarding partnerships. Art & Industry are particularly grateful to the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu, who welcomed SCAPE wholeheartedly into its exhibitions spaces, foyer, auditorium and forecourt – and leant their support with a wonderful skilled team.

What never ceases to amaze me is the tremendous support SCAPE receives from the city each biennial. This year has been no different and our sponsors, venue partners, consultants, industry, cultural and government partners have all helped to make SCAPE 2006 don’t misbehave! a fabulous focal point for Christchurch. People have paused in their daily lives to discuss and contemplate don’t misbehave! artworks that appeared in Christchurch’s public spaces. We trust that you, our audience were amused, awed, intrigued, amazed and inspired.
SCAPE, under the auspices of Art & Industry, has developed and sustained four biennials, making it New Zealand’s longest running international biennial. 2008 will mark the 10th anniversary of the Art & Industry Biennial Trust and will be the 5th SCAPE Biennial of Art in Public Space for Christchurch.
I would like to recognise and thank all SCAPE 2006 participating artists, without whom an event of this richness and calibre would not exist.
On behalf of the Art & Industry Trust Chair, Adrienne, Lady Stewart, Trustees and the excellent SCAPE team thank-you and see you in 2008!
